On February 13, 2007, gcc 4.1.2 was released.
I checked this version, and it compiles midas successfully,

GCC 3                    - OK
GCC 4.0                  - OK
GCC 4.1.0 and 4.1.1      - Bad
GCC 4.1.2                - OK
GCC 4.2                  - This is not released. Development version of GCC 4.2 is OK
